Running multiple versions of the archITekt image on a single machine

When developing multiple projects simultaneously, there may be a need to manually manage the platform versions used in individual projects and to precisely control when a given project should be updated to a newer platform version (and often also to specify exactly which version a particular project should be updated to). For this purpose, archITekt provides a mechanism for installing "frozen" releases.

archITekt versioning (standard and "frozen" releases)

The platform installer is available in two branches:

  • Default – enabling automatic updates to newer releases
  • Frozen – providing the ability to install specific platform releases alongside the default version.

The archITekt platform is versioned. Information about a specific version is stored:

  • in the version.json file located in the platform installation directory, in the version field (e.g. version: 21.21.60518.1545),
  • in the project.json file located in the specific project directory, in the ArchITektVersion field (e.g. ArchITektVersion: 21.20.60325.1643)

The archITekt version encodes the release time according to the schema [aa.bb].[yMMdd.HHmm], where:

  • aa.bb – the version release number
  • yMMdd.HHmm – the date and time of the version release

For example, version 21.20.60325.1643 means release 21.20 built on 2026-03-25 at 16:43.

Installing frozen versions

To install a specific frozen version, use the direct link that allows downloading the frozen version installer for the given specific release. For example, for version 21.20.60325.1643, the frozen version installer should be downloaded from:

https://architekt.vsoft.pl/download/644ad18a-9624-492c-948e-147402b017ef/21.20.60325.1643/VSoft.archITekt.21_21.20.60325.1643.msi
https://architekt.vsoft.pl/download/644ad18a-9624-492c-948e-147402b017ef/21.20.60325.1643/VSoft.archITekt.21_21.20.60325.1643.MySqlPlugin.msi

After installation, the frozen version will by default be placed in a directory "next to" the standard version:

Manual platform version management in a project

The archITekt version for a specific project can be frozen:

  • already at the project creation stage, by running the project creation script from the directory containing the frozen version and adding the parameter -LockedImageVersion 'On'
cd "C:\Program Files\VSoft\archITekt\Images\21_21.20.60325.1643"
.\DeveloperCreate.ps1 [...] -LockedImageVersion 'On'

or

.\OnPremisesCreate.ps1 [...] -LockedImageVersion 'On'
  • or by freezing the version of an already existing project:
# freeze the version
.\Reconfigure.ps1 -pathProjectFolder [project directory] -LockedImageVersion 'On'

# unfreeze the version
.\Reconfigure.ps1 -pathProjectFolder [project directory] -LockedImageVersion 'Off'

When the project version is frozen, all administrative scripts will be automatically "redirected" and executed on the specific platform version. This can be observed in the console:

Procedure for manually upgrading a project to a specified version

Below is an example of upgrading a project to a specific, designated platform version using the "frozen" version mechanism.

Assume we have a project at version 21.20.60318.1053 with the LockedImageVersion: On flag enabled, and we want to upgrade it to a specific version, e.g. 21.20.60325.1643.

  1. Disable the project freeze. (Note! The script will automatically redirect execution to the script from the appropriate version – due to the "frozen" status of the project)
.\Reconfigure.ps1 -pathProjectFolder '(project directory)' -LockedImageVersion Off
  1. Run the project upgrade script from the directory of the version to which we want to upgrade the project.

For a developer environment:

cd 'c:\Program Files\VSoft\archITekt\Images\21_21.20.60325.1643'
.\InstallDeveloper.ps1 -PathProjectFolder '(project directory)' -SetupCommand Upgrade

Or for an OnPremises environment:

cd 'c:\Program Files\VSoft\archITekt\Images\21_21.20.60325.1643'
.\InstallOnPremises.ps1 -PathProjectFolder '(project directory)' -SetupCommand ClusterInstallOrUpdate
  1. Freeze the image version in the environment (by running the script from the frozen image):
cd 'c:\Program Files\VSoft\archITekt\Images\21_21.20.60325.1643'
.\Reconfigure.ps1 -pathProjectFolder '(project directory)' -LockedImageVersion On

After completing the procedure, the project will be updated to version 21.20.60325.1643
