What is the Documents generation
The Documents generation allows you to design and manage document templates and generate output documents based on the data collected in the system. Document templates can be later used in the designed application as system printouts or e-mail templates.
Documents generation after installation in MS Word:
- is visible in the add-ins window under the name VSoft Document Services
- as a menu tab of MS Word named archITekt.
The functionality allows you to:
- define the content of the document using MS Word using all its editing capabilities,
- automatically complete the content of documents with business data from the system with tags embedded in the content of the document,
- insert multiple data: filling data tables, completing lists in a document,
- generate documents in DOCX, PDF, MHTML formats.
Required software
In order to use the Documents generation, the following software is required:
- Microsoft Office Word 2016 or newer,
- Windows 10 with all critical fixes,
The document generation functionality is provided as a service that allows you to generate documents and convert them to supported formats. Conversion to PDF format is performed using LibreOffice. The service manages the pool of running LibreOffice processes and supports parallel conversion of multiple documents running on multiple threads.
Note!
Due to the fact that LibreOffice runs in a single thread, when launching the document generation service, it is worth considering the number of LibreOffice processes running. Due to the way it works, it is recommended to run no more processes than the number of cores available on the server.
The document generation functionality has an API that allows it to be used:
- directly within the application process (“InProc”)
- as a call to the WCF service provided by the document service.
Additionally, please note that the document conversion to PDF functionality is only available within the conversion service.
